This restoration project, and the 1906 NYO&W #8206 / Unadilla Valley #51 Bobber Caboose also being restored can be viewed on the UDRRHS storage track adjacent to the Delaware & Ulster Railroad (not affliated) in Arkville, NY.
locomotive history:
This H. K. Porter "Medium Duty" saddletank locomotive was originally built for Mesta Machine Works, West Homestead, PA as #5.
She was then purchased by BEDT around 1939 through loco dealer Birmingham Loco .
After serving on the BEDT until 1963, she was purchased (along with BEDT #13 of similar sidetank design) by Mr. George Hart for use on on the Ma & Pa RR.
From there she was sold in 1967 to Black River & Western RR in Ringoes, NJ, and saw use for one year, and then put on static display.
The Ulster & Delaware RR Historical Society obtained #14 in 1983 and placed her on display as well. Time and weather took it's toll, so in 2005 a cosmetic restoration began.
Why is this locomotive special?
Her and sister locomotive BEDT #16 (another H. K. Porter product) were the last steam locomotives to operate in the New York City (Brooklyn) and as late as October 1963.
