Surviving Relic of Denholm Coal Wharf in Denholm, PA

Other than the odd track spacing along the former PRR/PC/Conrail, now NS mainline at Denholm, PA, the bridge abutment is the only visible remnant of the Denholm Coal Wharf, which could refuel trains on 12 tracks. The coaling facility, which was also a bridge over PA 333 (partly visible below) and the 12 tracks or so tracks of the PRR mainline at this point as it fanned out to allow mulitple trains to take coal simultaneously. The tracks reached this bridge via a loop off the southmost track of the mainline 1/2 mile east of here which looped through the woods to gain the elevation to clear the road and tracks. At the far end this track turned west and returned to the norhtmost main track perhaps 2000 feet west of the facility. Among the photos a Google search will pull up is an aerial view showing the track arrangement at Denholm.

Very interesting piece of PRR history, Warren! I Googled "Denholm Pennsylvania coaling station" and found some interesting 1906 photos of the coaling structure in use:
