Wilkes-Barre bound.

Big Alco power, working its way toward Ararat Summit at Thompson, Pennsylvania. The mid 1960s were a comparatively brief "high season" for large, all-DC units, already at the practical limits, in terms of power and electrical complexity. Avid chasers, such as myself, however, had little concern for technology. Big Alcos were big Alcos and we could not have been happier.

Even though I lived near Binghamton, NY, I never made it to the D&H Penn Division. But do recall riding in the family car on rte 7 on our way to Albany and being overtaken by a C628 led D&H freight running at 60mph. The D&H property was in excellent shape back in the pre-Dereco era but these units did have a reputation for beating up the track. Great capture!
