Rail welding

Conrail crew welds a joint at mp83 Palmer Mass. This is a Thermite Weld, also referred to as a field weld. It is formed by a checmical reaction between Aluminium and metal Oxide. Once hot enough the molten metal will spew out of the container into the railjoint. the crew will then remove the forms and grind the joint.
