NJ Transit U34CH Under Catenary at Denville, NJNJT 4172 (U34CH) leads a westbound M&E line train around the curve at Denville, NJ. I don't recall if I ever knew why this train was not operating with electric MU equipment. A year after this photo, NJT 4172 would be cleaned up to operate a farewell to the U34CH excursion and then donated to the United Railway Historical Society as the only preserved U34CH, currently held at Boonton along the former DL&W Boonton Line, visible from I 287. URHS is attempting to raise funds to restore this locomotive to service at EL 3372. The paint would not change much, as NJ Transit never repainted this unit from its original colors when the NJ Dept of Transportation bought to unit to operate Erie Lackawanna commuter service.
