Photo of Ontario Northland's Northlander TEE train
Ontario Northland's Northlander TEE train

Sometime in the late '80s, from the Bathurst St bridge at Toronto, I captured one of Ontario Northland's four former TEE train sets used for Toronto-Timmins, ON passenger service acquired in 1977, heading toward Via's Mimico Rail Maintenance Center. The TEE set's original power car did not fare well in northern Ontario winters and has long ago been replaced by an FP7 to power the trailer cars. Note the jaunty bell that ONR affixed to the roof of the cab trailer. Five such 4 car TEE train sets were built for the Swiss and Netherlands railways in 1957 with one Swiss set scrapped after a major wreck. After ONR discontinued the use of this unique equipment in 1992, 5 cars were repatriated to Europe for restoration.
