The CN line from Montreal to the U.S. border in 2014.

This is the Canadian National's line from Montreal to the USA at St-Lambert, Quebec on 9/23/2014. The Adirondack uses these tracks. I think the old Montrealer went this way too. I've ridden both. I sure wish they'd bring back The Montrealer! I remember waking up and watching the scenery from my bed in the sleeping car as the train crossed northern Vermont and Lake Champlain. That was traveling!
