Visitor Comments about this Photo:

#5 Shay was built in 1919 for the Beebe River RR and it was found to be painted so, with a gold stripe top and bottom, on the tender once the paint was scraped off. #1 Shay and #5 Shay were duplicates and kept in the Lincoln enginehouse. #5 is essential very worn out and unlikely to run again. #1 was in better shape but had a broken frame and was cut up in a scrap drive in 1953 with most of the J.E. Henry log bunks, built (or refurbished) by Laconia Car Works. From 1953 for many years it sat out front, north of the Trading Post, on display.
