Oops - Open Swingbridge Accident - CNJ Kearny Branch; Newark, NJThis is the former CNJ swingbridge (now removed) which spanned the Passaic River between Newark, NJ; in the vicinity of Roanoke Avenue, and Lincroft, NJ, by Central Avenue. It used to connect Newark with the CNJ Kearny Yard by the confluence of Hackensack and Passaic Rivers.
This photo, (looking north) shows the Raymond Boulevard Lift Bridge and the Pulaski Skyway under the approach span. Also, a carfloat can be seen next to the white building on the left (by the shoreline) with railroad cars on board. It is believed these cars came out of the river.
The center pivot and island cribbing still exists but the swingbridge span itself has been removed. This location can be seen in the LiveSearch Aerial photo:
